La Cuna

Lead Partner: Diane Wintriss

La Cuna, Spanish for “cradle,” was licensed in May of 2005 as San Diego’s first foster family agency dedicated specifically to both the birth-to-five-year-old population and the Latino community. The mission of La Cuna is to ensure that Latino foster infants and toddlers grow up safe, happy, and healthy. SDSVP has provided La Cuna technology assistance, marketing support, and coaching on building best practices around finances. Last year SDSVP helped the staff and board create a new method of financial planning—one that is more flexible in response to an unpredictable economy.

La Cuna continues to find answers to some of foster care’s toughest issues. By focusing on very young children, they are able to make a dramatic difference in the lives of each child placed in their care. They are leveraging the funds invested early in life to save millions of dollars later.

“When I look back on all that SDSVP has done for us over the past three years, I can tell you that the hands-on coaching and infrastructure support in helping us build a stronger nonprofit has been more valuable than the funding we received.”
