Environmental Accelerator Fund - Getting Involved

Giving

Our strategy is solid, reliable and growing funding for strategically important, results-oriented environmental projects. In our first round of funding we aim to commit $1,000,000. We have already raised over half of this amount, and we need your help to finish the job.

Initially we are directing all of our funding to the creation of an urgently needed, nonpartisan, science-based, environmental policy center for San Diego -- focusing on the "green development" issues of land use, transportation, and green building. Once this group is well funded, we expect to make synergy grants to grow other organizations working in these same areas. With thorough oversight, sufficient funding to these groups will change San Diego's future.

We work with experts to identify the highest-potential and most strategically important environmental non-profit organizations. We show respect and commitment, engaging for three years or more to deliver substantial funds and powerful business and management skills. In the process, we build these organizations' capacity through hands-on consulting, working toward annual and quarterly milestones with visible growth and measurable results.

Volunteering

The Environment Accelerator Fund provides opportunities to volunteer in areas including:

- Research and grantmaking -- direct funds to where they will make the most difference

- Oversight and board membership -- help ensure the success of environmental groups

- Consulting with environmental groups through our Resource Teams -- put your skills to work for a better San Diego

- Networking with environmental experts, donors, and community leaders -- bring all the players together for greater results

Becoming an Investee

San Diego is fortunate to have a number of active, passionate environmental organizations that do a tremendous job, making a difference on a daily basis. The Sierra Club, San Diego Coastkeeper, San Diego Bay Council, and the Surfrider Foundation are just a few of the organizations that come to mind. But the environmental challenges facing San Diego over the next 20 years are significant, and will continue to grow in scale and scope. Building a lasting, sustainable solution to these issues involves more than any one single group can provide. We are especially interested in groups that can help San Diego grow in a more environmentally friendly way. We deeply believe that a healthy economy and a healthy environment are compatible. If your group works to significantly improve our region's land use, transportation, or development practices, we want to know you.
