Dan Blank joins Social Venture Partners at an important time in our evolution, as we build on the success of the last 10 years.
As our new Membership Director, Dan's passion for children and education will play an important role as we embark on our collaborative effort to improve high school graduation rates.
Dan and his wife moved to San Diego from the east coast after she was recruited to join UCSD. In the short time Dan's been here, he has already begun to forge relationships with key players in San Diego's philanthropic community, including local foundations and civic leaders.
As a former investment banker, his deep experience in the capital markets means Dan can easily see the value in building collaboration between both funders and agencies, as well as speak the language of those who might be inclined to support SVP's bold initiative to 'move the needle' on graduation rates.
Dan's experience with nonprofits, including as a consultant for United Way, has shown him that the Darwinian model of survival of the fittest doesn't necessarily work in the nonprofit space. He's accustomed to a collaborative vision.
Dan knows he'll be focused on building bridges – to grow our partnership and grow our impact – and describes himself as a "natural networker," who will prioritize bringing people together to do more. He views SVP as a "vehicle for change, with significant thought leadership," and believes we can facilitate change faster because we are a nimble organization.
He plans to team with current Partners in making appeals, to ensure capital on the sidelines is invested wisely, and he says sharing lessons learned, even among non-Investees, will help strengthen our knowledge of best practices, and enhance the value SVP brings to our community.
Dan's passion and enthusiasm for his new job, and new home, are clear.
