PHILIP LURIE

Lead Partner for Traveling Stories

Grew up in South Africa and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1974. Managed and liquidated a chain of furniture stores for a client of the Accounting Firm that had emigrated to Canada.

I emigrated to Canada in 1977 and qualified as a Canadian Chartered Accountant in 1978. I then worked for 2 years as the Controller to a large chain of furniture stores in Toronto. At the same time, a friend of mine and I started a Communications Company in Toronto and grew the company into the largest telex/facsimile company in the world with 8 franchisees in Canada and 2 in Italy. We sold out to a Public Company in 1986. Retired after a 2 year management contract.

Moved with my family to La Jolla in 1989. Bought into a small Commercial Printing Company and my partner and I grew the business 15 fold. We retired in 2017 and have our management team running the daily operations.

We supported a number of charities including the Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club for many years. We have been a major sponsor of the Museum of Making Music (MOMM) for the last eight years. I was on the board of Junior Achievement for 5 years and a Vistage member for 14 years. I love learning and teaching the game of business.

I have invested in Commercial Real Estate and start up companies over the last 40 years.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being a partner at SDSVP for the last two plus years.
