Featuring I Love A Clean San Diego
Following a six-month engagement focused on strengthening the organization’s internal operations, I Love A Clean San Diego returned with a request for support in board development. Social Venture Partners was happy to continue our consulting relationship with the nonprofit, working to empower San Diegans to live waste-free.
The SVP team, including Lead Partner Robert Hill and Partners Laureen Ong and Joyce Ross, worked closely with I Love A Clean San Diego’s Governance Chair Joseph Mazzella to support the nonprofit’s board in implementing best practices. Together, they clarified roles and responsibilities for the staff and board and identified opportunities for new member recruitment based upon the composition of the current board. SVP also shared resources for member self-assessments and action planning tools to give individual members a framework for supporting the nonprofit in achieving its mission.
An organization is only as strong as its leadership. Having honed its external messaging, expanded its staff, and improved information technology systems, it was time for I Love A Clean San Diego to invest in its board of directors.
“SVP's guidance and advice helped our organization mature its board governance with improvements in board policies and processes. I'd highly recommend that any nonprofit organization work with SVP if it's looking to improve its board governance program or if it wants to align its program with governance best practices.” - Joseph Mazzella, I Love a Clean San Diego Governance Chair
With best practices now in place, I Love A Clean San Diego’s Board of Directors is poised to continue to guide the organization forward – allowing many more generations of San Diegans to be leaders in conservation.
