Featuring CAIR San Diego

SVP develops nonprofit leaders. Just ask Tazheen Nizam of the Council on American Islamic Relations San Diego (CAIR). Nizam, a powerhouse, took the helm of the small nonprofit, running in a deficit two years ago, and successfully doubled its budget and built out its programs in a brief period. SVP came alongside the executive director in the subsequent months to solidify her leadership by laying a future vision for CAIR, telling its story of impact, and growing its reach among stakeholders in the community.
SVP Partners Andy Pendoley (Lead), Andy Kaiser, and Pat Kaufman knew there was something special about Nizam when she first approached SVP for support. Her dynamism and understanding not only of the needs of Muslim-Americans, but of the broader San Diego community, both impressed and inspired the team to help the nonprofit leader continue to lay a solid foundation to guide the organization.
Over the course of the nine-month consulting engagement SVP facilitated a strategic planning process that enabled Nizam to engage CAIR’s growing staff and board members in setting the nonprofit’s future direction.
“Through meaningful engagement with staff, board and ED, the SVP team helped us craft a [future roadmap]. We are excited to implement this strategic plan starting January 2025.” - Tazheen Nizam, Executive Director
In addition, the team worked closely to develop tools and approaches for an effective communications plan. Preparing for continued and future growth was a key element to the project’s success. To this end, SVP discussed sustainable revenue development with Nizam and supported her in developing an annual revenue plan that included a framework, objectives, and metrics for current and new sources of funding, along with a sample calendar to guide activities throughout the year.
CAIR San Diego’s leader now has a new strategic plan as guiding and centering compass and the tools she needs to grow internal capacity, engage stakeholders, and expand the organization’s revenue base.
Do you know a nonprofit leader like Nizam with passion, talent, and commitment to their community? Let us know. SVP would love to support their leadership development and the capacity of their organization.
