ELIZABETH COX

Elizabeth Cox is a community development leader with expertise in project management, strategic planning, and communications across government, nonprofit, and for-profit sectors. She spent over a decade with the Rock and Roll Marathon series, evolving from race director to overseeing community relations, volunteer, and medical programs at more than two dozen events nationwide.

During more than 11 years at the San Diego Association of Governments, Cox served as marketing and communications manager and later as manager of strategic initiatives. Cox is also a member of InfraGard of San Diego, the San Diego Diplomacy Council, the Altrusa International Club of Chula Vista, and a founding member of Conscious Capitalism. In 2024, she was elected to the board of directors of South Bay Water and serves on the governing board for Sweetwater Authority, one of the San Diego County Water Authority’s 22 member agencies.

Cox earned a master’s degree in public administration from San Diego State University and a bachelor’s degree in human services from The George Washington University. In 2018, she became the first lifelong learner to earn three certificates—in executive leadership, mindful executive, and communications—from the University of California, San Diego Rady School of Management Center for Executive Development.

Cox’s favorite title is serving as Auntie to her beloved one-year-old nephew and three-year-old niece. She enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, gardening, crafting, live music, and spending time outdoors, especially near bodies of water.
