CARL VONDERAU

Carl Vonderau, a former banker has embarked on a second career as a novelist. Midnight Ink recently published his first novel, Murderabilia, which won the Left Coast Crime award for Best Debut Mystery. He’s also on the board of Partners in Crime, San Diego. This is a chapter of the national Sisters in Crime organization of writers and fans of crime fiction.

As a banker, Vonderau lived and and worked in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and North Africa. He did business in French, Spanish and Portuguese, and financed small businesses, real estate, individuals, foreign banks, and international trade.

Before his work with Social Venture Partners, Vonderau helped other nonprofit organizations. He volunteered with the San Diego YMCA to develop international partnerships and eventually chaired the board for the Mission Valley Branch. In 2017, he received the Golden Triangle award, the San Diego YMCA’s highest honor for volunteer service. He also assisted Cal State San Marcos as a member of the Dean’s Council for the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences.
